This was an HIV testing and prevention project. The overall goal was to increase the demand among University Students who are sexually active to seek HIV Testing Services (HTS), with the aim of reducing new HIV infections among the university youth.

It was funded by UNAIDS and was implemented in the city of Blantyre from November 2021 to February 2022. We targeted sexually active University Students between the ages of 15 to 24. The project’s implementation approach was conducting college outreach campaigns, round table talks, mobile and static HTS , comfort corner with youth PLHIV, as well as social media campaigns and engaging social influencers.

The project was a success

Reached

By the end of December 2021, we had reached 300,000 youths with behavior change messages, 2,500 young people had tested for HIV, and we established youth leaders’ networks in the 5 major Universities within BT.

Selected

The project was also selected as the best practice by UNAIDS.

Studies

The project developed case studies that were also presented at the Fast Track Cities Conference in Spain and Amsterdam respectively.
